Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely designing a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
